We provide service to over 86.5 million customers, traveling in and out of New York and Connecticut. A subsidiary of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Metro-North Railroad is one of the busiest commuter railroads in the nation. JOB SUMMARY Manage the Lost & Found facility to provide excellent customer service to Metro-North's customers by locating, tracking and returning misplaced property. Support the Station Operations initiatives regarding making MTA Metro-North Railroad a brand name for Excellence in Customer Service. Manage the MNR Mailroom, responsible for all incoming and outgoing correspondence both for internal and external customers. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Operate and manage the entire Lost & Found program for Metro-North Railroad which includes the receiving and tagging of lost property from various terminal locations and managing the inventory in the Lost & Found facility. This includes tracking lost articles, interacting with stakeholders regarding the retrieval of lost items and ensures unclaimed property is disposed through established processes, procedures, and practices. Ensures all property is safeguarded and accounted for from receipt through final disposition. Manage the Budget of the Lost and Found Operation to include any contracts. Provide auditing of the outlying ticket offices as well as drop boxes to ensure compliance with company and department policies related to Lost and Found. Work with Outlying Station Operations managers to identify and correct deficiencies regarding lost and found property. Produces weekly statistical reports for senior management. Manage and oversee the MNR Mail Room activities including the delivery of incoming and outgoing mail. Supervises a team of unionized employees ensure that the staff receives and delivers company correspondence in a safe and timely manner. Manage budget of the Mailroom Operation to include any contracts. Communicates and interacts effectively with internal and external business contacts, including, but not limited to, the Risk Management Department and the MTA Police Department on investigation of lost and stolen properties. Develop and train current and new employees on all functions of the Lost & Found and Mailroom groups. Develop and support Information Technology programs related to Lost and Found and the Mail Room. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. May be required to work hours outside regular work hours, as applicable. Observes the work performed by contractors, as applicable. Reviews invoices and approves them if the work has contractual standards, as applicable. Addresses performance issues with the contractor when possible, as applicable. Escalates issues to other parties when needed, as applicable. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels. Ability to creatively view customer service needs, concerns, and execute broad programs to address these issues. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Strong ability to manage complex projects and work in a fast-paced atmosphere. Leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate a support staff. Strong written and verbal communications and presentation skills. Must be capable of preparing and analyzing data and preparing reports based on the analyses. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, (i.e. Access) and/or comparable applications. Must have an aptitude for computer technology and desire to learn different programs. Available to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergency situations. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. The following is/are preferred: None REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Business Administration, Accounting, Transportation, or related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education and/or technical credentials to include four (4) additional years may be considered in lieu of degree. Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible experience in operations management using established processes, procedures and practices performing property management assistance functions. OTHER INFORMATION Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”). Final salary is determined experience, skillset, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve. Employees driving company vehicles will be subject to License Monitoring and must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MTA drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position. To be eligible for consideration for a new role, current MTA employees must complete at least one year of service in their current role prior to applying.
