Job Summary:
The Speech Therapy Therapist is responsible for assessing and treating patients with communication and swallowing disorders across long term care, acute care, and outpatient settings. This role involves developing individualized treatment plans, providing therapy to improve speech, language, cognition, and swallowing abilities, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. The therapist also maintains accurate patient records and communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. Responsibilities:
- Assess patients' speech, language, cognition, and swallowing difficulties using communication and standardized tests.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Assist patients in articulating sounds and improving voice quality.
- Teach alternative communication methods such as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) or sign language.
- Work with patients to improve reading and writing skills.
- Develop exercises to strengthen muscles used in swallowing.
- Counsel patients and families on coping with communication disorders.
- Maintain accurate records of evaluations, diagnoses, treatment progress, and plan changes.
- Complete final evaluations upon therapy completion.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- New York State license for Speech-Language Pathology.
- Certificate of clinical competence in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Proficiency in evaluating and treating speech, language, cognition, and swallowing disorders.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Experience working in long term care, acute care, or outpatient settings.
- Knowledge of alternative communication methods and techniques.
- Compassion and empathy in patient care.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Work involves interaction with patients in various healthcare settings including long term care and acute care facilities.
- Must maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional licensure and clinical standards.
- May require flexibility in handling diverse patient needs and collaborating with multiple healthcare professionals.
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, 40 hours per week.
