Public Health Officer (Part-Time)

Job Summary The Public Health Officer serves as Mono County's chief medical authority, providing medical leadership and oversight for the Public Health Division. The position guides public health policy, oversees disease prevention efforts, coordinates emergency public health response activities, and serves as the County's trusted medical expert. It offers the opportunity to improve the health and well‑being of rural communities through collaboration, innovation, and evidence‑based public health practice. Responsibilities Provide medical leadership and oversight for the Public Health Division. Guide public health policy and oversee disease prevention efforts. Coordinate emergency public health response activities. Serve as the County's trusted medical expert, making timely, evidence‑based decisions during routine operations and emergencies. Communicate complex medical information to elected officials, community organizations, the media, and the public. Qualifications Licensed physician in California (or eligibility to obtain a California medical license within six months of hire). Experienced physician with a strong foundation in clinical medicine. Demonstrated ability to develop public health policy and lead collaborative initiatives. Effective communication skills and ability to translate complex medical and scientific information for diverse audiences. Proven leadership and sound judgment; able to make timely, evidence‑based decisions during routine operations and emergencies. Commitment to public service, ethical medical practice, and community engagement. Ability to build relationships and work effectively with hospitals, laboratories, emergency responders, schools, law enforcement, and state and federal agencies.
