Role Description The Associate Attorney – Commercial, Regulatory & Public Law role is a full-time position based in Austin, TX, with a hybrid work arrangement that allows some work from home. The role involves providing legal advice on commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, and public law matters impacting life insurance operations in the U.S. and in coordination with global policies. Day-to-day tasks include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements; conducting legal research on regulatory and employment-related issues; and preparing internal guidance, policies, and training materials. The attorney will collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess legal risks, support new products and initiatives, and ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulatory standards. The role also includes managing relationships with external counsel, supporting responses to regulatory inquiries, and contributing to governance frameworks and dispute resolution strategies. Qualifications Strong foundation in Law, with experience in Commercial Law and Public Law relevant to insurance and financial services. Knowledge of Labor and Employment Law, with the ability to advise on workplace policies, compliance, and employee-related matters. Proven ability to provide practical Legal Advice that balances legal risk with business objectives. Excellent Research skills for analyzing statutes, regulations, case law, and regulatory guidance. Effective Negotiation skills for contracts, settlements, and interactions with regulators and external partners. Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution; admission to practice law in at least one U.S. state (Texas bar or eligibility to obtain Texas admission preferred). Experience in insurance, financial services, or a highly regulated industry is strongly preferred. Ability to work in a hybrid environment, manage multiple matters, and communicate clearly with both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
