LOCATION OF POSITION: Department of Juvenile Services, Cheltenham Youth Detention Center, 11003 Frank Tippett Road, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623. Position Summary The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is seeking a DJS Residential Group Life Manager I to lead the group life program during specified shifts. The incumbent plans and schedules work assignments of staff, supervises first-line supervisors, and ensures adherence to facility and departmental policies. The role may involve evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts and may require call-ins. Responsibilities Full responsibility for the group life program during assigned shifts. Plan and schedule work assignments of employees directly working with youth, including first-line supervisors. Ensure standards of performance and continuity of training for assigned personnel. Enforce facility and departmental policies. Respond to staffing needs and coordinate work in other shifts. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalency. Four years of experience supervising youth in a juvenile facility or at-risk youth program. Desired or Preferred Qualifications Three years’ experience supervising employees in a secure juvenile setting. Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Completion of Entrance Level Correctional Training Course and maintenance of Maryland Correctional Training Commission certification. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license if duties require operating a vehicle. Board-approved medication technician training and valid MBON certification for employees at Youth Centers. Special Requirements U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status. Minimum age 21 years. Background check, fingerprinting, drug testing, oral interview, physical and psychological examinations.
