Cal Poly Humboldt

Department of Native American Studies Temporary Faculty Pool Native American Studies at Cal Poly Humboldt is more than an academic discipline. We're a continuation of Indigenous knowledge from time immemorial, presenting a depth of Native American experience from a distinctly tribal perspective. As the first CSU campus to offer a baccalaureate degree in Native American Studies, and still the only program of its kind in the CSU, NAS continues to develop as a stand‑alone department, with active input from tribes. Courses / Areas of Specialization Courses offered by the department include Indigenous Peoples in U.S. History, Native American Literature, Nature and Issues of Genocide, Native Tribes of California, Native American Health, and others. The ideal candidates will demonstrate a shared commitment to the academic and professional success of our diverse student body. We will prioritize applicants who demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to diversity and its value in professional and educational communities. The successful candidate will be an equity‑minded educator who is committed to collaborating with faculty, staff, administration, and students on closing opportunity gaps. Cal Poly Humboldt sits on the traditional homelands of the Wiyot people in what is currently called Arcata, CA. The Wiyot people call the area Goudi’ni (over in the woods). The campus is in close proximity to several thriving Native American tribes and communities. Humboldt currently has the largest percentage of Native American students in the CSU system and has over 30 Native American faculty and staff, many from local California Indian tribes. Cal Poly Humboldt is home to a number of leading Native American programs including the Indian Tribal Education and Personnel Program (ITEPP) and the Indian Natural Resource, Science and Engineering Program (INRSEP). There are also many opportunities at Humboldt to conduct research, teaching and community work on Native American history and cultures, with resources in Special Collections at the Cal Poly Humboldt library. The Humboldt Room in the Library has fantastic resources for tribally focused archival materials from the region. Humboldt strives to build a supportive and inclusive Native community and engages with Native communities through initiatives and opportunities like the annual California Indian Big Time, Indigenous People’s Week, and a chance to network with other faculty and staff as part of the Cal Poly Humboldt Council of American Indian Faculty and Staff. For more information, please visit: It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide complete and accurate employment information. Evidence of required degree(s), certification(s), or license(s) will be required prior to the appointment date.
