Job Title Ophthalmic Technician2 (OT2) – PalmBeachGardens Campus, Full-time, Staff. Responsibilities Performs and documents clinical testing in the electronic medical record, including: Reason for visit Tangent screen visual fields Chief complaint Basic ocular motility History of present illness Pupillary evaluation Basic review of systems Ocular surface assessment Review of systemic and ocular medications Eye drop administration Record allergies Intraocular pressure (Goldman, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care) Pharmacy information Pachymetry Family, social, medical, and ocular history Insertion and removal of hard & soft contact lenses Visual acuity at distance and near Color vision test Lensometry Stereopsis test Manual refraction Sensorimotor exam Confrontational fields Automated & manual perimetry Humphrey visual fields Virtual Reality visual fields Amsler Grid visual field Provides support to providers, including chart documentation as required. Provides patient‑centric care. Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training. Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with regulations. Follows best practices for patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control. Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned. Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness. Meets daily productivity goals. Maintains JCAHPO certifications. Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order. Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications. Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities. Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary. Works evenings and weekends as needed. Performs organizational duties as assigned. Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients. Facilitates motility exams. Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams. Performs imaging including fundus photos, OCTs, and slit lamp exams. Assists with training and onboarding clinical support staff. Acts as a super‑user for technology implementations, optimizations, and training initiatives. Acts as preceptor and trainer for team members. Serves as a lead technician providing oversight to clinical teams when assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). BLS certification. Two years of relevant experience. Knowledge and skills: Works well with patients of all age groups. Professional appearance. Effective verbal and written communication. Outstanding interpersonal skills. Analytical, organized, prioritizes, and meets deadlines in a fast‑paced environment. Accurate, detail‑oriented assignments. Seeks instruction when additional knowledge is required. Works independently and collaboratively. Intermediate knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility. Ability to perform patient work-up using EMR telehealth platform. Competency in all ophthalmic subspecialty patient work‑ups. Prepares patients for intravitreal injections. Ability to function as an ophthalmic scribe. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
