Associate or Full Professor without tenure, Division Head Pediatric Dermatology - UW Medicine Position Overview Title: Associate or Full Professor without tenure, Division Head Pediatric Dermatology - UW Medicine Position Description The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to serve as Division Head of Pediatric Dermatology, with an anticipated start date of September 2026. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a continuous academic/twelve‑month appointment. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications, potentially resulting in an administrative duty supplement (ADS). Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments aligned with a 12‑month service period (July 1‑June 30). Faculty with 12‑month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12‑month period (July‑June), equivalent to one month of paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The Department of Pediatrics is the second largest department in the UW School of Medicine, with twenty‑one clinical divisions and approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including about 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty. The department is a close affiliate of Seattle Children’s Hospital and Seattle Children’s Research Institute. Faculty are located at various institutions—including Seattle Children’s, UW Medicine, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center—and participate in the Children’s University Medical Group clinical practice plan. The Division Head is expected to work collaboratively across all domains to advance and support the clinical, educational and scholarly aims of the Division of Dermatology and the Department of Pediatrics. This position involves strategic planning, mentorship, and fostering an inclusive environment that respects all facets of diversity. Desired qualities include superb clinical, scholarly and educational acumen, exceptional communication skills, and a passion to develop and grow our Pediatric Dermatology Division. Primary Duties of the Division Head include: Providing outpatient and inpatient clinical care. Providing guidance and leadership for the Division of Dermatology. Leading faculty development, recruitment and retention. Conducting annual faculty review meetings and preparing progress reports. Supporting faculty promotion and re‑appointment with letters of recommendation. Oversight of clinical care, including faculty deployment across all clinical sites. Advocating for adequate clinical support staff. Attending weekly clinical operations meetings. Overseeing division finances including budget review, faculty salary negotiation, incentive plans, and faculty development funds. Leading monthly division meetings and monthly clinical care conferences. Attending bi‑weekly department leadership meetings and quarterly retreats. Oversight of education and program development. Appointing and supervising the fellowship program director. Engaging with the dermatology residency program director to ensure appropriate training of residents. Reviewing deployment of trainees including fellows, residents, and medical students. Promoting scholarship and quality improvement within the division. Qualifications Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications: MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent). Board certified or eligible in Pediatric Dermatology (or foreign equivalent). Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Washington. Foreign graduates must have successfully completed all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as required for H‑1B university sponsorship.
