Payroll Specialist

Hunt Valley Contractors, Inc. is looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to manage weekly payroll activities and certified payroll submissions. This position is responsible for collecting and reviewing payroll information, identifying timekeeping or payroll discrepancies, processing payroll accurately, and making sure required reports are submitted on time. The right person for this role is dependable, organized, comfortable working with detailed information, and able to keep payroll moving when deadlines are tight. Previous construction payroll and certified payroll experience is required. This is a fully in-office position and requires working on-site. Pay and Benefits $28.00-$35.00 per hour, based on experience Employer-paid health insurance 120 hours of paid time off each year A 3% employer contribution to the company's 401(k) plan after one year of service Overtime eligibility What You'll Do Payroll Administration Process payroll accurately and on schedule. Collect and review employee time submitted through Traspera and Trimble. Review timesheets, attendance records, regular hours, overtime, deductions, garnishments, and benefit contributions. Confirm that payroll information is complete and ready for processing. Identify missing, inconsistent, or incorrect time entries and work with the appropriate employees or supervisors to resolve them. Review system-generated wage, fringe, deduction, and garnishment calculations for accuracy. Enter and maintain employee payroll information. Research and correct payroll discrepancies. Prepare payroll summaries, reconciliations, and reports. Maintain accurate and organized payroll records. Coordinate payroll activities with the Accounting and HR Director. Respond to routine employee questions about timekeeping, deductions, and payroll. Certified Payroll Administration Prepare and submit certified payroll reports for applicable construction projects. Review employee names, hours, wage rates, classifications, fringe benefits, and deductions before reports are submitted. Confirm that certified payroll information matches payroll and timekeeping records. Track certified payroll due dates and submission requirements. Maintain certified payroll reports and supporting documentation. Correct rejected reports, missing information, and routine submission errors. Communicate with project staff when additional information or corrections are needed. Escalate classification, wage-rate, prevailing-wage, or unusual compliance questions to management. Assist with certified payroll requests from clients and government agencies. Human Resources and Office Support Coordinate new-hire paperwork, orientation, screenings, employee files, and handbook distribution. Enter and update employee information in payroll, timekeeping, HR, and benefits systems. Process employee changes from hire through termination. Assist with benefit enrollments, changes, terminations, and payroll deductions. Maintain confidential and organized employee records. Assist with I-9 documentation, EEO tracking, and other HR paperwork. Answer routine employee questions and direct more complex matters to the HR Director. Order office supplies and maintain vendor information. Manage vehicle and equipment registrations. Provide notary services as needed. Assist with administrative work and special projects. What We're Looking For At least three years of payroll experience Hands-on construction and certified payroll experience Experience preparing and submitting certified payroll reports At least two years of human resources or related administrative experience Experience with Traspera, Trimble, or similar construction payroll and timekeeping systems Working knowledge of payroll practices, deductions, garnishments, timekeeping, and recordkeeping Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify timekeeping and payroll errors The ability to manage recurring deadlines and follow established processes Good judgment and practical problem-solving skills Clear and professional communication The ability to handle confidential employee and payroll information The ability to work independently and as part of a team Current notary certification Physical Requirements This position involves working at a computer and performing office duties for approximately 50% of the workday. The employee must be able to move around the office, operate standard office equipment, communicate effectively with employees and others, regularly lift or move up to 15 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. This is a non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime.
