Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Oncology Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required. License: Valid nursing license required. Certifications: BLS, ACLS preferred. Must-Have: Med-Surg experience required. Oncology experience preferred but not required. Description: Registered Nurse position available in Medical Surgical Oncology. The focus is on caring for patients with hematological disorders. Patient diagnoses include lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute and chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, and other benign hematology conditions. Special procedures performed on the unit include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies. There is a heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient falls. Staffing ratios aim for 1:4 but can increase to 1:5 based on patient needs. Flexibility is required for variable weekend scheduling. Staff may float to other medical-surgical and oncology units as needed. Skills required include telemetry interpretation, IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central line management. Candidates must have experience with computerized charting systems. The unit supports an interdisciplinary team, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Daily census averages 31 patients with a total of 36 beds available. Candidates should exhibit strong teamwork and communication skills. Recent acute care experience is required.
