The University of New Mexico Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque is seeking an RN for a 13-week assignment. The shift details are from 07:00 AM to 07:30 PM, with three shifts per week for a total of 36 scheduled hours. The start date is 08/31/2026, and the end date is 11/30/2026.

The facility is a smoke-free environment with no designated smoking areas, including the parking lot. The RN must be able to sustain being on their feet for 80% of the shift and must not reside within a 100-mile radius of the facility. Locals are not accepted. The candidate must pass a facility background check and must have MOAB certification. If the traveler does not have MOAB certification, they will receive a 4-hour de-escalation course during their first week. Failure to pass may result in contract cancellation. The COVID vaccine is optional, but the flu vaccine is required with medical/religious exemptions only.

The facility has a capacity of approximately 1950 inmates, with an average daily population of 1750-1800. The RN will provide routine and emergency healthcare, conduct health assessments, make necessary referrals, and be responsible for triaging and assessing new patients to the facility. Special equipment is not required.

Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, and MOAB. Experience in correctional settings is preferred, but ER nurses with one year of experience are also considered. The RN must have skills in accessing/managing ports, bipap/cpap management, colostomy/ileostomy management/care, CVA, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), insulin, interpretation of dysrhythmias, isolation precautions/PPE, med/surg, mood disorders, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, ortho trauma, oxygen administration, oxygen tanks, phlebotomy, post MI, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure, spinal cord injury, starting and maintaining IVs, substance withdrawal, telemetry, traumatic brain injury, use of rapid response/code teams, and wound care/wound vac.

Guaranteed hours are 36 per week, with the facility allowed to call off three times throughout the 13-week assignment. A 6-month break is required for any travelers that have worked four consecutive assignments or reached their one-year mark, whichever comes first.
