Social Work Supervisor (Special Victims Unit)

Position Summary The Social Work Supervisor will lead a team of Child Welfare Specialist III’s within the Special Victims Unit (SVU) of the Youth and Family Services Division. The role provides direct supervision, training, and evaluation of staff who investigate complex child abuse and neglect cases, including trafficking, physical, sexual, emotional abuse, fatalities, foster and group homes, and other related services. Location and Work Hours 430 Stitt Rd, Charlotte, NC 28213. The position may require after‑hours work (after 5:00 pm) and weekend duties as needed. Salary Salary Range: $69,388.80 to $86,736.00. Exempt, salaried position. Essential Functions Supervise, train, and evaluate technical and para‑professional staff. Consult with teams and staff on individual case assignments. Develop procedures to meet department or program goals, ensuring regulatory compliance. Establish performance objectives, conduct periodic reviews, and monitor progress. Monitor budget activities and adjust expenditures, making recommendations as appropriate. Review and audit staff cases and workloads to prioritize duties and referrals for new cases. Complete monthly and quarterly program reports. Provide consultation in complex case situations, acute emergencies, or high‑level decision cases. Communicate with and visit other public and private welfare agencies, hospitals, and institutions to exchange information and develop resources. Seek additional sources to increase funding and expand services. Review and analyze activity reports and statistics for continuous awareness of program operation. May be required to staff shelters in the event of a disaster. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of five years of social services or human services experience. Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Health, or related field. Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License. County Driving Privileges. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Social Work. Three years of child welfare investigations, including at least two years of supervisory experience. Experience in conducting physical abuse, sexual abuse, and fatality investigations (e.g., Responding to Child Sex Abuse, The Art of Narrative Interview, Understanding and Screening Trauma). Demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: General social work principles, social services procedures, federal, state, and local laws concerning public assistance and social welfare, case management techniques, and community agency services. Skills: Interpreting local, state, and federal regulations; advocating for client needs; leadership; written and oral communication. Abilities: Adaptability, building partnerships, building trust, decision making, delegating responsibility, and conflict management. Computer Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related applications. Work Environment Office setting with moderate noise.
