Principal Accountant/Auditor

Job Overview Principal Accountant/Auditor positions in the Auditor-Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector office and the Human Services Auditing Division require the holder to perform the most complex professional accounting duties, including preparation and interpretation of financial statements and reports, establishing new accounting procedures and controls, conducting complex operational audits of departments, special districts, and programs, and analyzing and advising management on a variety of fiscal matters. Responsibilities Prepare and interpret financial statements and reports. Establish and implement new accounting procedures and controls. Conduct complex operational audits of departments, special districts, and programs. Analyze fiscal matters and advise management. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, or a bachelor’s degree in another field that includes 30 semester (45 quarter) units of accounting coursework. A transcript with qualifying coursework is required if degree is in another field. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years full‑time equivalent professional‑level auditing and/or accounting experience. Professional‑level experience is defined as work that requires specialized knowledge, acquired through principal work experience. Clerical/bookkeeping experience is not considered qualifying. Designations: Preferred certifications include California Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner, or Certified Information Systems Auditor. Additional Requirements: Evaluation of degrees earned outside the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from an accredited credential evaluation service. Visa sponsorship is not accepted. Conditions of Employment Valid California Class C Driver’s License required. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
