Registered Nurse - Emergency Trauma Unit (FT - Night) - Jefferson Abington

Job Duties Interacts with co‑workers, patients, their family/designated care partner(s), and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Partners with patients and their family/designated care partner(s) to identify learning needs and priorities and provides education in ways that are useful, understandable, and affirming. Minimizes risk of harm to patients and others by following established nursing practices and protocols and maintaining individual performance standards. Uses information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support ethical decision‑making. Uses data to monitor the outcomes of care processes and applies improvement methods to design and test changes for continuous quality and safety enhancement. Functions effectively within nursing and inter‑professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision‑making to achieve quality patient care. Recognizes patients and their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on respect for personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs. Creates an environment of belonging and inclusion, demonstrating skills in problem solving and conflict resolution. Demonstrates a commitment to learning and seeks opportunities for continued professional growth and development; acts in a primary preceptor role to appropriate staff members. Actively participates in hospital‑ and practice‑setting based committees, including safety and quality improvement. Demonstrates willingness to give and receive feedback and integrates appropriate changes into practice. Minimum Qualifications Specialized Diploma – Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Patient‑and Family‑Centered Practice – Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family, and/or designated care partner in care and care planning. Cultural Awareness – Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively. Effective Communication – Understanding of communication tools and techniques; ability to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas and information through appropriate communication behaviors. Patient Assessment and Care – Knowledge and ability to assess ailments and injuries and implement a treatment plan. Patient and Designated Care Partner Education – Knowledge of child and adult education techniques and the ability to elicit learning priorities and needs; educate patients and their designated care partner(s) on condition, treatment, medications, and next steps in recovery. Medication Administration and Prescription – Knowledge of medications used to treat patients; ability to administer medications and prescribe drugs for continuing treatment outside the hospital. Discharge Planning – Knowledge of post‑discharge needs and ability to partner with patients and families in creating a discharge plan and arranging follow‑up care. Assessment and Diagnosis – Knowledge of assessment tools and nursing diagnosis techniques; ability to analyze symptoms and generate resolutions. Health Information Documentation – Knowledge of documentation methods; ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and results. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree BSN or completion of BSN or appropriate advanced degree within 3 years of hire strongly preferred. 1 year previous experience as an RN in an acute care setting strongly preferred. Active RN license required in state of practice. Additional Qualifications Physical demands – lift and carry 40–50 lbs; push/pull patients on bed or stretcher; frequent to continuous standing/walking; transitory patient transport 8–10 miles per shift; may include kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR.
