Accounting Specialist

Snapshot / Role Overview
We're seeking an Accounting Specialist in Atlanta, GA to support accounting operations, process transactions, and maintain accurate financial records for a commercial construction company.

Impact

• Ensure financial accuracy by processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries

• Support project profitability through accurate job costing and expense tracking

• Enable timely decision-making by maintaining current financial data and reporting

• Drive efficiency by streamlining accounting processes and resolving discrepancies promptly

Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable including invoice review, coding, and payment preparation

• Manage accounts receivable activities including invoicing, payment application, and collections

• Record general ledger transactions and maintain accurate chart of accounts

• Reconcile bank statements, credit cards, and vendor accounts monthly

• Support job costing processes by coding expenses to appropriate projects and cost codes

• Assist with month-end close activities and prepare supporting schedules

• Maintain organized documentation and filing systems for financial records

• Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve billing discrepancies

• Support audit preparation by providing requested documentation and schedules

• Collaborate with project teams on billing questions and change order processing

Requirements

Must-Haves

• 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably in construction industry

• Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes

• Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Foundation, Sage, or similar)

• Advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with construction job costing and work-in-progress reporting

• Knowledge of prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements

• Familiarity with AIA billing and lien waiver processes

• Progress toward accounting certification or CPA
