Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a float pool position at an academic medical center requiring advanced ECMO and mechanical circulatory support experience.

Details

• Float pool position covering ICU, TCU, ED, and PACU departments across UCSF facilities
• CVICU/CTICU/CCU patient population including cardiogenic shock, heart failure, and transplant recovery cases
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Rotating 12-hour Day (7:00-19:30) and Night (19:00-7:30) shifts, 3x per week
• Schedule cycles are 4 weeks and may alternate between day and night shifts based on facility need
• Required to float to other UCSF facilities and departments within a 75+ mile radius as needed
• Epic charting system preferred

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• BSN required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA)
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Minimum 4 years of recent ICU experience required
• ECMO experience within the last 6 months to 1 year required
• Experience caring for ECMO patients as a bedside RN without dedicated perfusion support required
• CVICU/CTICU/CCU experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required, including a completed assignment within the past 12 months
• Ability to independently manage complex critical care patients
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Experience with VA ECMO, VV ECMO, V-PA ECMO, CRRT (NxStage), IABP (Teleflex), Impella, and Ventricular Assist Devices strongly preferred
• Experience with pulmonary artery catheters and prostacyclin therapies strongly preferred
• Cardiothoracic, heart transplant, or lung transplant recovery experience strongly preferred
• Academic medical center experience highly desirable
• Experience simultaneously managing multiple support devices (e.g., ECMO + CRRT, ECMO + Impella, ECMO + IABP) highly desirable
• Two references from most recent employer required for consideration

Additional Information

• Care for critically ill patients with advanced cardiovascular and respiratory support needs, including those on ECMO, IABP, Impella, LVAD/RVAD, and CRRT
• Manage patients within UCSF's ICC (Interdisciplinary Cardiovascular Critical Care) model, integrating cardiovascular critical care, transplant, and multi-organ support competencies
• Skilled in arterial line management, central line care, blood product administration, and massive transfusion protocols
• Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and advanced airway care required
• Knowledge of neurological critical care including ICP monitoring, EVDs, and post-craniotomy management preferred
• Familiarity with renal replacement therapies and CRRT required
• All RTO must be disclosed and approved by the manager at time of offer; no additional requests accepted mid-contract, and RTO cannot fall within the first two weeks of the assignment
• Any prior employment with University of California medical facilities or their acquired facilities must be disclosed for a rehire eligibility review
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate as travelers
• Travel pairs are permitted but generally will not be placed on the same unit
