Course areas to teach include: Activity‑based courses: Swimming, Racquet, Team & Individual Sports, Dance, Aerobics & Fitness, Jogging Lecture‑based courses: Exercise for Healthy Living, Exercise Electrocardiography, Clinical Evaluation of Lower & Upper Extremity, Sport & Exercise Psychology, Adapted Physical Education, Movement Education, Sport & Aging, Care of Athletic Injuries, Exercise Physiology of Women, Energy Production & Performance, Exercise Programming, Sleep & Performance Professional physical education pedagogy‑based courses: Team & Individual Sports, Student Teaching Supervision Coaching‑based courses: Theory of Sport/Fitness Management, Theory of Coaching; Ethics, Inclusion, and Equity in Coaching Lab‑based courses: Motor Learning & Control, Applied Exercise Physiology, Applied Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Cardiovascular Testing Duties of a part‑time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, dates, time, and modality are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Part‑time lecturers receive conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires are made when instructional needs arise due to enrollment changes, faculty tenure unit adjustments, or other factors. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, occasionally for an academic year. Appointments may be renewed based on needs, funding, and performance.

RANK AND SALARY

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are: There is a "full‑time rate" (15 weighted teaching units [WTUs]). A semester’s compensation consists of six (6) payments. A semester pay is pro‑rated based on units worked out of 15 WTUs. For example, a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary of $5,507 would receive $1101.40 per check, totaling $6,608.40 for 3 units/semester.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Masters or Bachelors plus a minimum of five (5) years of related professional experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Doctorate and/or teaching experience in related subject.

OUT OF STATE EMPLOYMENT

Faculty beginning employment or returning after a 12‑month break on or after January 1, 2022, must perform all work within California. Faculty hired prior to that date must be available for in‑person work if required.
