This role supports the charge nurse, preceptor and leadership team in a high‑complexity Cardiothoracic Patient Care Unit. Role Purpose The Assistant Nurse Manager provides administrative support to Nurse Managers and oversees direct reports, coordinating patient care, performance management, equipment purchasing, and statistical reporting. Responsibilities Hire, train, assign work, manage and evaluate performance of direct reports. Ensure productivity and actions of the team meet departmental operational goals. Participate in staffing, revenue and expense budgeting and help achieve budget targets. Provide and oversee patient care according to planned interventions, documenting per policy. Create and implement collaborative plans of care based on assessment, diagnosis and treatment. Review staff hours versus scheduled hours and determine appropriate disposition for variations. Perform and approve daily payroll updates; reconcile time cards and approve coding. Prepare and coordinate staff communications; lead huddle agendas and meetings. Determine staffing needs; assign nursing coverage and overtime. Recommend annual increases; interview staff for open positions and conduct performance reviews. Draft and issue corrective actions or coaching; follow up on disciplinary actions for compliance. Conduct performance evaluations and recommend areas for improvement. Maintain a constant state of alertness and safety‑oriented work environment.
