This highly creative, hands-on position develops written, graphic, digital, photographic, and video content; produces marketing materials; manages digital communications; and documents the Center’s work and impact through storytelling and multimedia. The Communications Specialist II independently manages projects from concept through completion and understands how individual communications activities support broader organizational goals. The position requires creativity, strong organization, attention to detail, sound judgment, collaboration, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. The position also requires an understanding of civic engagement and public affairs at the tribal, state, and federal levels and how government, public policy, community engagement, and communications intersect with the Center’s work.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop written, graphic, photographic, and multimedia content for the Center’s website, e-newsletters, social media, digital communications, campaigns, events, and other marketing channels. Independently design and produce professional print and digital materials using Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva, including flyers, brochures, advertisements, banners, fact sheets, invitations, presentations, event signage, and social media graphics. Produce and edit short- and long-form video, including reels, promotional and event videos, interviews, educational content, and organizational storytelling using Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Express, CapCut, Canva, or comparable software. Develop and execute communications campaigns from planning through completion, including audience identification, messaging, creative development, promotional timelines, social media, email, website updates, media outreach, event-day communications, and post-event follow-up. Develop e-newsletters and internal communications and coordinate content across email, website, social media, and other platforms. Gather stories, testimonials, photographs, video, and other content that document the Center’s programs, services, community engagement, and impact. Photograph Center events and activities as needed and maintain organized digital libraries of photographs, videos, graphics, design files, and other communications assets. Assist with public relations activities, including press releases, media communications, press conferences, and other public-facing activities. Support communications related to civic engagement and public affairs at the tribal, state, and federal levels, including communications connected to public policy, government relations, and community priorities. Monitor communications, social media, email, website, and campaign performance and use analytics to identify opportunities for improvement. Collaborate with leadership and service-area staff to gather information, identify stories, develop accurate content, and effectively communicate programs and services. Coordinate with vendors and maintain communications calendars, project timelines, and workflows to ensure projects are completed accurately, on time, and in accordance with Center branding and organizational standards. Stay current on communications, digital marketing, social media, design, video, storytelling, and industry best practices. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine arts, communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field, plus two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated ability to independently manage communications projects from concept through completion, including planning, design, production, publication, promotion, and follow-up. Strong graphic design and visual communication skills with proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and Adobe Express, and Canva. Experience producing professional print, digital, photographic, and video content for multiple audiences and platforms. Experience with Constant Contact, WordPress, Sprout Social, or comparable email, website, and social media management platforms. Knowledge of social media marketing, digital communications, web publishing, basic HTML, accessibility, SEO, Google Analytics, and digital performance metrics. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to develop compelling content and adapt messaging for different audiences; knowledge of AP style and news writing preferred. Understanding of civic engagement, public affairs, and government processes at the tribal, state, and federal levels, including how public policy, community priorities, and communications intersect.
