Marketing & Business Development Manager - Sports, Media and Entertainment

Job Summary Hogan Lovells seeks an experienced, proactive Marketing & Business Development Manager to lead our global Sports, Media and Entertainment (SM&E) sector. The role involves developing and executing a comprehensive marketing and business development strategy that drives client engagement, strengthens market positioning, and supports long‑term growth across the sector and its aligned practices. Responsibilities Leadership Act as the MBD lead expert for the global SM&E team. Lead the development and implementation of the yearly business plan to support the global SM&E sector strategy, aligning with firm objectives. Manage a global team, providing guidance, training, and professional development. Coordinate and manage sector‑specific MBD projects and assignments. Encourage participation in the firm’s Responsible Business programme. Marketing Campaigns, Profile Raising & Thought Leadership Plan, create, and manage marketing communications, including seminars, client events, CLE trainings, client‑facing materials, external conference attendance, and web and social media content. Lead directory and award submissions for relevant rankings and publications. Support input coordination for sector‑specific thought leadership publications. Collaborate with the PR team to implement profile‑raising strategies for the sector and individual partners. Events and Sponsorships Conceptualize and support client seminars, webinars, and other marketing events, managing materials, vendor selection, and client communications. Oversee day‑of logistics and follow‑up reporting. Evaluate, coordinate, and execute sponsorships; negotiate agreements and manage participation to maximise ROI. Foster relationships with industry associations to drive client engagement. Plan internal meetings, retreats, and education sessions on the sector with leadership. Business & Client Development Support the team on the portfolio of sector clients, monitoring and analysing client financial performance and conducting internal review meetings. Act as client account manager for key clients, conducting feedback sessions and support. Pitching, Targeting & New Business Generation Lead pitch strategy for the sector, aligning with the sales transformation plan and global pitch coordination. Develop, manage and support responses to RFPs, pitches and proposals tailored to client needs. Create and maintain a suite of standard targeting materials, including credentials documents. Internal Communications & Knowledge Sharing Support sector working group efforts as MBD lead and share best practices and processes across the global sector team. Maintain key MBD resources on the global intranet and hoganlovells.com, including team lists and master credentials documents. Promote firm capabilities across the firm through global retreats, internal newsletters, conference calls, meetings, and the intranet. Wider MBD Projects Manage and contribute to broader MBD projects and assignments as appropriate. Qualifications Excellent strategic and commercial awareness. Proactive mindset to help attorneys spot and capitalize on opportunities. Diplomatic, pragmatic, and resourceful with strong people‑management skills. Very strong project‑management skills with the ability to prioritise and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication, with meticulous attention to detail. Ability to work independently and within cross‑functional, global teams. Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with the firm’s AI tools preferred; experience with Interaction and Foundation a plus. Education & Experience Seven (7)+ years of relevant experience, preferably in the legal or professional services industry. Knowledge of the sports, media, and/or entertainment industries is a plus. One (1)+ year(s) of people‑management experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree required; degree in marketing, communications or related field preferred. Post‑graduate qualifications (e.g., MBA) advantageous. Hours & Work Schedule Core hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with lunch hour. The position follows a hybrid schedule, with four days in the office and one day working remotely from home. Compensation In Washington, D.C., the expected base salary range for this role is $136,000 to $199,000 per year. In New York, the expected base salary range is $146,000 to $213,000.
