Primitive Pursuits Program Coordinator

Job Overview The Primitive Pursuits Program Coordinator serves as a member of the 4‑H Youth Development Primitive Pursuits Program to assist with planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of afterschool, homeschool, and school enrichment programs for youth. Responsibilities Program Development (20%) – Assist in developing educational strategies, youth and nature‑based learning programs, materials, and activities; research and select resources; collaborate with the supervisor; incorporate evaluation outcomes to adjust programs. Program Delivery (55%) – Deliver high‑quality programs in afterschool, homeschool, and other settings; develop lesson plans; support teachers and guest speakers; collaborate with community agencies and municipalities; use a variety of media, newsletters, and distance‑learning tools; promote the program through mass media. Program Evaluation (5%) – Assist in creating an evaluation framework; collect and analyze data; recommend improvements; communicate results. Direction (5%) – Assist in developing marketing, public affairs, and funding proposals; identify community and fiscal resources; support budget development. Management (5%) – Support administrative program management; resolve conflicts; monitor compliance with policies and funding requirements; supervise temporary camp staff and volunteers; monitor financial status and recommend cost‑saving measures. Coordination/Operation (5%) – Coordinate program implementation and activities; maintain teaching materials; manage enrollment database and communication with constituents; coordinate promotion and marketing initiatives. Professional Improvement & Other Duties (5%) – Create and pursue a professional development plan; attend orientation, training, and meetings; keep confidential participant information. Health and Safety – Maintain a safe working environment and follow all applicable regulations and policies. Required Qualifications Master’s degree with relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree plus four years of transferrable evidence‑based research experience. Background in nature/environmental education and outdoor survival skills. Ability to meet travel requirements within Tompkins County. Ability to meet background check standards and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Ability to transport supplies and communicate proficiently in English. Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with schools, community partners, and funding organizations. Proficiency with Windows‑based software and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to plan, organize, implement, teach, and evaluate informal educational programs. Ability to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity. Ability to manage documentation and maintain participant confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications Background in education, youth development, outdoor education, or nature‑based learning. Experience with Cooperative Extension or similar educational organizations. Direct experience working with youth. Experience writing or researching grant opportunities. Knowledge of local geography, demographics, and community needs. Experience coordinating afterschool programming. Benefits Part‑time, 30 hours per week. Pay rate $20/hr commensurate with experience.
