Speech And Language Specialist

Major Duties And Responsibilities

Assess students referred for speech and language services

Develop and implement an Individual Education Program (I.E.P.) for each student who qualifies for speech and language services as part of his/her special education program

Participate as a member of an I.E.P. team for students receiving speech and language services

Participate as a member of an initial I.E.P. team for students who have been assessed for speech and language services and provide information to the team regarding assessment findings

Keep abreast of trends and developments in special education, and participate in professional growth opportunities

Participate in regular meetings of the District's speech and language specialists

Perform other duties assigned by the administrator

Desirable Qualification

Knowledge of: students with exceptional needs, diagnostic and assessment instruments, methods and materials to remediate speech and language disorders, policies and regulations in the identification of students and educational planning

Ability to: communicate effectively with students, staff and parents, work as a team member with other speech and language specialists and professional staff
