Categories: Human Resources Department: Finance Type of Appointment: Unclassified - Administrative/Staff Salary: Start of $42,000 with actual offer based on experience and education Duties and Responsibilities Perform work associated with recruiting, staffing, onboarding, training and development, performance management, benefits, compensation, retirement, employment contracts, organizational development, recognition, progressive discipline, employee relations, policies and procedures, workers’ compensation, payroll, and information systems. Consult with and advise leaders on human resource issues and problems; review personnel actions and employment activities for compliance with federal, state and SOWELA rules, policies and procedures; perform preparation and submittal of personnel, payroll and benefits documents; establish and maintain personnel file system; respond orally and in writing to requests for information. Investigate personnel problems, report findings and make recommendations to leaders. Coordinate grievance proceedings. Work with or assist with applicants and application process. Work with or assist with selection practices and hiring process. Collaborate with employees on accommodation and absence management requests, leave expirations, and the return-to-work process, communication with appropriate staff accordingly. Develop internal and external communication to promote HR initiatives, programs, events, and activities, including job descriptions, policies, standard operating procedures, proposals, presentations, emails, brochures, flyers, and other materials as appropriate. Coordinate health, life, retirement, and other supplemental insurance enrollments and communicate with service providers concerning routine administration. Conduct research of laws and regulations, policies, procedures and court decisions as it relates to HR compliance and respond to governmental inquiries. Utilize networks and tools through community services, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, internet sites, association memberships, trade groups, and social media to attract and retain highly qualified talent. Explore and utilize technologies, social media, networks, agencies, internet sites, tools and other techniques to continually improve the services and efficiency of the department. Establish, maintain, and update the HR information systems, files, databases, records and/or documents, and perform routine analysis and calculations in the processing of data to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies. Coordinate and conduct meetings, sessions, seminars, orientations, and departmental training, and perform administrative duties such as data entry, filing, and scheduling. Reviews and verifies incoming and outgoing documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established policies and procedures. Other duties as deemed necessary. Required Education Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field. Required Experience Three years’ experience in human resources, higher education, or combination. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to protect confidential information and communicate with impeccable discretion in all matters related to employees and internal processes. Ability to organize and coordinate multiple tasks and work under time pressure to meet deadlines. Knowledge of current federal and state employment laws and regulations. Knowledge of HR rules, policies, processes and best practices. Knowledge of or ability to become knowledgeable in Banner. Knowledge of payroll laws and processes. Knowledge of contracts for faculty. Preferred Experience Experience working in a Human Resources Department in a higher education environment. Recruiting/Onboarding experience. Professional HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, etc.).
