Legal Operations & Strategy Manager

DESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 11.9 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 80 renewable energy projects in 24 states. DESRI is run by a dynamic team with offices located at New York, Denver, and Hyderabad (India).

We are seeking a proactive and highly organized Legal Operations & Strategy Manager to join the Legal & Compliance function. This role will support regulatory compliance obligations, legal department operations, and transactional execution across DESRI and affiliated investment advisory entities. The successful candidate will drive operational excellence across the legal department, lead the compliance function for legal, and help the leadership team scale decision-making, visibility, and impact as the organization grows.

What You'll Do

• Work with external law firms and consultants on ongoing regulatory compliance obligations, including coordination of annual and periodic filings and related documentation.
• Assist with administration and maintenance of compliance policies, internal certifications, and regulatory tracking.
• Develop and manage legal department processes, including workflow coordination, intake procedures, and outside counsel engagement.
• Track and improve oversight of legal spend and vendor relationships.
• Supervise a team responsible for day-to-day compliance operations, entity formation, corporate governance documentation, and KYC-related matters.
• Serve as a key operational resource within the Legal team and coordinate across internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should hold:

• 5+ years of relevant experience in legal operations, corporate governance, investment advisory compliance, or transactional work.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently.
• Experience building or improving processes within a legal, compliance or consultancy function.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• This role is well suited for a chief of staff or consultancy career with meaningful experience or a former practicing lawyer seeking an operations-focused role within a sophisticated legal environment.
• Prior experience at a top-tier management consulting firm or in a strategic operations or chief-of-staff role within a high-growth company.
