About the Pediatric Gastroenterology Advanced Feeding Therapy Program:

The Henry Ford Advanced Feeding Therapy Program recognizes that each child’s feeding behavior is unique. Our feeding experts work with the patient to develop a personalized, family-focused treatment plan that focuses on the patient's needs. A SLP is required as a key member of the team. This is a unique opportunity to join a rapidly developing major specialty program.

The Advanced Feeding Therapy Program includes the following:

• Expert advanced feeding team:  Given the complexity of many child feeding and nutrition issues, these are treated most effectively with a multidisciplinary team. Our team includes a pediatric gastroenterologist with specialized training in nutrition, pediatric dietitians, and speech-language pathologists with advanced training in feeding and swallowing disorders. Examples include patients with dysphagia, motility disorders, oral airway issues, tube feeding, tube weaning and oral aversion.

• Advanced diagnosis:  Other than video swallow studies, advanced GI testing such as endoscopy, pH probes, impedance testing, gastric emptying scans and other tests are used to aid in diagnosis.
• Comprehensive, family-focused treatment:  An evidence-based care plan focused on the specific child feeding or nutrition issue, with goal-oriented interventional therapies is made. This includes providing SLP therapy in a child-friendly environment to minimize stress to the child and includes nutritional support as well as GI management as indicated. This included advanced nutritional management with specialty diets and pharmacotherapy.
• Education and support:  Tools and resource creation for patient and provider support.
• Research:  Clinical trials and other research studies help to define the next gold standard of pediatric care, and our team is at the forefront of research. We remain on the cutting edge of new knowledge and are actively involved with others across the state, nationally and internationally to improve care.

 

Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate  Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with pediatric experience to join our team. The SLP will provide clinical services to children with a variety of speech, language, cognitive, voice, and swallowing disorders. This includes comprehensive evaluations, individualized treatment planning, therapy services, and follow-up care. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with children and families to support communication and developmental milestones.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct speech-language and swallowing evaluations for pediatric patients.

• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs.

• Provide direct therapy services to children with communication and swallowing disorders.

• Collaborate with families, caregivers, educators, and interdisciplinary teams to support care goals.

• Document patient progress, maintain accurate clinical records, and comply with reporting requirements.

• Participate in patient case reviews and contribute to ongoing care planning.

• Provide mentorship and clinical supervision to clinical fellows, as applicable.

Qualifications

Qualifications

:

• Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited graduate program.

• Successful completion of the National Praxis Examination.

• Completion of the Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).

• Minimum of one year of experience in a clinical setting, with a focus on pediatric care strongly preferred.

Licensure and Certification:

• Current Speech-Language Pathology license issued by the State of Michigan.

• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with early intervention, school-aged children, or medically complex pediatric patients.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
