We are seeking an accomplished Senior Director, Global Medical Affairs, to lead global medical strategy for an innovative investigational treatment targeting orexin receptor 2 (OX2R) for sleep-wake disorders. In this strategic leadership role, you will oversee medical affairs planning and execution across the product lifecycle, with a strong focus on launch readiness, scientific engagement, and evidence generation. You will collaborate with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to align medical strategy with clinical development, regulatory milestones, and commercialization objectives. Building trusted relationships with global scientific experts, healthcare professionals, and patient advocacy organizations will be central to advancing disease understanding and addressing unmet patient needs. You will also guide scientific communications, publications, educational initiatives, and stakeholder engagement across key international markets. This remote opportunity is ideal for a strategic medical affairs leader with proven global launch experience and a passion for translating scientific innovation into meaningful patient impact.
Accountabilities
- Lead global medical affairs strategy: Develop and execute the global medical affairs strategy and tactical plans for the lead investigational asset, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities, clinical development milestones, regulatory objectives, and commercialization plans.
- Drive product lifecycle planning: Establish long-term medical affairs plans that support regulatory submissions, launch preparedness, commercialization, and ongoing lifecycle management. Identify emerging scientific opportunities, evidence gaps, and stakeholder needs to inform future development.
- Oversee global launch readiness: Lead medical launch preparation across major markets, partnering with commercial, market access, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), regulatory affairs, clinical development, and regional medical teams to deliver integrated launch strategies.
- Coordinate medical launch deliverables: Guide the development and execution of scientific platforms, medical training materials, medical information resources, publication plans, scientific congress activities, and insight-generation initiatives in line with launch timelines and strategic priorities.
- Support market access and value communication: Collaborate with HEOR and market access teams to shape global payer engagement strategies, strengthen evidence-based value communication, and ensure medical insights inform access and commercialization planning.
- Build external scientific partnerships: Establish and maintain relationships with global key opinion leaders, clinical investigators, professional societies, and patient advocacy organizations. Lead scientific advisory boards, expert consultations, and other initiatives that generate actionable external insights.
- Represent scientific leadership: Serve as a credible scientific ambassador and subject matter expert in orexin biology and sleep-wake disorders, representing the organization at major scientific congresses, industry meetings, and relevant external forums.
- Champion cross-functional collaboration: Act as a strategic medical partner to commercial, market access, HEOR, regulatory, clinical development, patient advocacy, and corporate affairs teams, ensuring medical expertise informs business decisions and integrated plans.
- Guide scientific communication and education: Provide strategic direction for scientific communication platforms, publication strategies, disease education, medical training, and external educational programs.
- Ensure scientific and regulatory compliance: Review and guide externally facing scientific materials to ensure medical accuracy, scientific integrity, and compliance with applicable regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.
- Influence strategic decision-making: Represent medical affairs on the cross-functional asset team, integrating scientific evidence, stakeholder insights, and patient needs into product strategy and organizational priorities.
Requirements
- Advanced scientific or clinical qualification: An MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline.
- Extensive medical affairs leadership: At least 10 years of medical affairs leadership experience, with five or more years of global medical affairs experience preferred.
- Relevant therapeutic expertise: Experience in neuroscience, sleep medicine, neurology, psychiatry, or rare diseases, with the ability to interpret complex scientific evidence and translate it into actionable medical strategies.
- Global product launch experience: Demonstrated leadership in at least one successful global product launch. Experience spanning North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific markets is strongly preferred.
- Global medical leadership: Experience serving as a global medical lead for late-stage clinical development programs or commercially available products, with accountability for strategy, execution, and cross-functional alignment.
- Medical affairs and evidence-generation expertise: Strong understanding of global medical affairs strategy, scientific evidence generation, payer evidence requirements, medical communications, and commercialization readiness.
- Strategic and business acumen: Ability to align medical priorities with clinical development, regulatory requirements, market access needs, and commercial objectives while maintaining scientific independence and patient focus.
- Cross-functional leadership: Proven ability to influence and collaborate effectively across matrix organizations, including commercial, market access, HEOR, regulatory affairs, and clinical development functions.
- Scientific communication skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and scientific storytelling capabilities, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse scientific and business audiences.
- Stakeholder engagement: Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, including experience engaging senior executives, global scientific experts, healthcare professionals, investigators, and patient advocacy groups.
- Leadership and execution: Demonstrated ability to set strategic direction, manage competing priorities, lead complex initiatives, and deliver results in a dynamic, science-driven environment.
- Travel flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel occasionally, approximately 20% of the time, for scientific congresses, stakeholder meetings, and business activities.
- Remote work eligibility: Ability to work remotely from within the United States.
Benefits
- Competitive annual salary: Expected base salary range of $177,000–$338,800 USD , depending on education, experience, skills, and geographic location.
- Performance-based incentives: Eligibility for a company bonus based in part on organizational and individual performance.
