Social Work preparation Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Social Work seeks a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as a Lecturer and SUDTAR Coordinator for the Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Certificate Program for both MSW students and professionals. This position plays a central role in delivering addiction-focused workforce training designed to strengthen rural behavioral health capacity across North Carolina. The Lecturer and SUDTAR Coordinator will serve as lead instructor for SUDTAR coursework and coordinate program implementation, including curriculum delivery, assessment, continuous quality improvement, recruitment, advising, and stakeholder collaboration. The position supports the development of a rural behavioral health workforce equipped to provide integrated, evidence-based substance use disorder treatment services. This role includes statewide recruitment and engagement with rural healthcare, behavioral health, and substance use treatment partners to support workforce development and program sustainability. - Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
- Hold current dual Licensure as a NC Clinical Social Worker or Associate (LCSW or LCSW-A with exam already passed) and NC Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS)
- Hold licensure as a NC Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) or NC Clinical Supervisor Intern (CSI)
- Minimum of four years of post-master's professional experience in substance use disorder treatment in behavioral health or integrated healthcare settings.
- Familiarity with NCASPPB requirements for LCAS credentialing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based substance use disorder treatment practices.
- Experience working with rural or underserved populations.
- Demonstrated ability to teach, train, supervise, or provide professional development.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with community partners and interdisciplinary teams.

- Teach undergraduate and/or graduate social work courses as assigned, including SUDTAR coursework and other BSW/MSW courses as needed.
- Serve as lead instructor for SUDTAR courses, delivering synchronous and asynchronous instruction aligned with LCAS educational standards and CSWE competencies.
- Develop and deliver evidence-based content in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and integrated behavioral health, with an emphasis on rural practice.
- Facilitate student learning through lectures, applied learning activities, and case-based instruction relevant to workforce settings.
- Evaluate student performance, provide timely and substantive feedback, and maintain regular communication to support student success.
- Maintain and update course materials to ensure alignment with accreditation, certification, and best practices in online and hybrid instruction.
- Participate in curriculum development, instructional innovation, and integration of technology-enhanced learning strategies.
- Engage in departmental, college, and university service activities consistent with Lecturer expectations.
- Contribute to continuous program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives related to teaching and student outcomes.
- Coordinate SUDTAR certificate program implementation and day-to-day operations.
- Oversee curriculum delivery scheduling and coordination across cohorts.
- Lead ongoing program evaluation and continuous quality improvement processes.
- Collect and analyze program data related to enrollment, retention, completion, and licensure advancement.
- Support development of reports related to program outcomes and workforce impact.
- Lead statewide recruitment efforts focused on MSW-prepared practitioners serving rural and underserved communities.
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies in collaboration with professional networks and partner organizations.
- Provide academic advising and individualized support to SUDTAR participants.
- Facilitate cohort engagement and professional development activities to support program completion.
- Monitor participant progress and implement retention strategies as needed.
- Some statewide travel may be required for recruitment, partnership development, and program representation.
- Collaborate with rural healthcare, behavioral health, and substance use treatment partners to strengthen workforce pipelines.
- Build and maintain partnerships with agencies employing rural practitioners.
- Participate in outreach activities and represent the SUDTAR program at professional events and stakeholder meetings.
- Support integration of program graduates into rural workforce settings.
- Contribute to strategic planning and sustainability efforts for SUDTAR initiatives.
- Assist with development and refinement of curriculum aligned with emerging best practices in SUD treatment and integrated care.
- Support grant-related activities, including implementation, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
- Social work teaching experience in higher education or professional training environments (in-person and online teaching preferred).
- Experience with curriculum development or continuing education programs.
- Experience coordinating academic or workforce development programs.
- Demonstrated experience in recruitment, retention, or workforce pipeline development.
- Experience working in integrated behavioral health or medical settings.
