FIRE CHIEF

Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a FIRE CHIEF, Position Description Number T6329000 and is part of the 105TH AW, National Guard. This vacancy does not meet the criteria for appointment of annuitants. Veterans' preference does not apply to this vacancy due to internal merit promotion. Responsibilities As a FIRE CHIEF (GS-0081-12), you will serve as the Fire Chief responsible for the overall management and supervision of the fire protection/crash rescue and fire prevention program for the base. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 36 months experience, education, or training in one or more of the following areas: (1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade. (2) Rescue operations. (3) Detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards. (4) Operation of fire communications equipment. (5) Controlling hazardous materials incidents. (6) Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention (7) Firefighting and fire prevention theory and techniques; (8) Fixed and mobile firefighting equipment operation. (9) Planning, directing, or carrying out fire protection and prevention programs and operations and/or (10) Performing emergency medical services. Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel. You must provide Official Transcripts as documentation to support your educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position. Additional Information If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency (Register | Selective Service System : Selective Service System (sss.gov)). Relocation Incentive: May be authorized for highly qualified candidates or hard to fill positions. TAG is final approval authority for any incentive requests. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: The maximum entry age for DoD firefighters is 37. An individual not appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual becomes age 37 will not be originally appointed or assigned to these positions. Employees in positions, involving firefighting duties or other duties involving arduous physical exertion, may be subject to periodic (e.g., annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position. The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing may be a condition of employment when on the job announcement. Drug testing will only occur once a drug free workplace policy has been established and approved by the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Applicants may be required to pass a drug test prior to appointment. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
