Managing Clerk

Managing Clerk – Litigation Department Haynes and Boone, LLP seeks a full‑time Managing Clerk in our Dallas office to provide guidance on court rules and procedures, manage electronic filings, serve and retrieve documents, and supervise docketing. Responsibilities Advise attorneys on motion practice, discovery, appeals, and procedural matters across state and federal courts. Handle electronic case filings via CM/ECF, NYSCEF, and other jurisdictions, including hard‑copy filings. Perform legal research and advise litigators on procedural matters. Screen court documents and calculate deadlines using the firm’s docketing system. Monitor and maintain the firm’s docketing and calendar systems, ensuring accurate due dates. Ensure attorneys are aware of filing deadlines and court appearances. Review documents before service and filing for compliance with rules, fees, and formatting. Retrieve dockets and court documents upon request. Register attorneys for electronic filing and troubleshoot account‑access issues. Monitor rule amendments in jurisdictions where the firm operates. Coordinate filing coverage and procedural compliance with firm calendar. Build relationships with clerks in Texas, California, Illinois and other courts; liaise with court staff. Coordinate with nationwide process servers for summonses, complaints, subpoenas, etc. Supervise procurement of certificates of good standing for newly admitted attorneys. Provide guidance to paralegal teams on filings and rule adherence. Utilize PACER, Bloomberg Law, CourtAlert, Westlaw, and other docketing applications. Create a database of sample pleadings and other forms; distribute to attorneys as needed. Assist department and case team projects; draft and revise court submissions. Engage in collaborative internal procedure improvements and provide procedural guidance. Research and respond to questions on service and filing of court papers. Qualifications 8+ years of experience in a managing attorney’s office at a comparably sized or larger law firm. Advanced knowledge of Texas, California, Illinois federal and state court systems and rules. Extensive knowledge of Electronic Filing (CM/ECF, EDTX, NDTX, SDTX, WDTX, CDCA, etc.) and related procedures. Advanced proficiency with eDockets, CourtAlert, CompuLaw, or equivalent calendaring tools. Proficiency with PACER, NextGen, CPi, Bloomberg Law, CourtLink, Westlaw Practical Law, NYSCEF, and Odyssey. Ability to work under tight deadlines and multitask; flexibility to work after hours if required. Strong attention to detail; self‑starter and independent worker. Experience supervising staff in a managing attorney/clerk office (preferred). Notary Public license preferred. Active New York bar or Texas license in good standing is a plus. Bachelor’s degree required; JD from ABA‑accredited law school is a plus. Physical Requirements Up to 15% of the time: move around the office to make copies, fax, file. 85% stationary; up to 100% when attending special events. Constant computer use; occasionally move documents up to 15 lbs. Must inspect and observe information on a computer screen at least 80% of the time.
