They work under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) and a surgeon to facilitate surgical procedures, ensuring a safe operating room environment, proper functioning of equipment, and patient safety. The surgical technologist handles instruments, supplies, and equipment during procedures. They understand the procedure, anticipate the surgeon's needs, and maintain the sterile field. They can operate independently in the scrub role and as a circulator under RN supervision. The position may require on-call duties and rotating shifts. Responsibilities include: Maintaining sterile fields Preparing operating rooms and assisting with patient positioning Inspecting sterile items for contamination and maintaining sterility Performing accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts Requirements: High School Diploma or Equivalent Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program (CST) NYS LPN also acceptable 1 to 3 years of scrubbing experience preferred Familiarity with all specialty services preferred Albany Medical Center is an equal opportunity employer.
