Chief of Thoracic Surgery

AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center is seeking a distinguished and visionary Chief of Thoracic Surgery to lead and advance our thoracic surgical program within the Heart & Vascular Institute. This physician lead will be responsible for the strategic, clinical, operational, and academic direction of thoracic surgery services across the system. This position will play a central role in program growth, quality outcomes, multidisciplinary collaboration, and innovation—helping to position AtlantiCare as a regional leader in thoracic surgical care. Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership & Program Development Provide clinical oversight for all thoracic surgery services, including lung, esophageal, mediastinal, and minimally invasive procedures. Lead the development and expansion of a comprehensive thoracic oncology program in collaboration with oncology, pulmonology, and radiology. Advance minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery capabilities. Establish and standardize clinical pathways, protocols, and best practices. Strategic & Operational Leadership Develop and execute a strategic vision for thoracic surgery aligned with the organizational and the Heart & Vascular Institute goals. Partner with executive leadership to drive growth, market expansion, and service line integration. Monitor and improve key performance metrics, including surgical volumes, outcomes, LOS, and patient experiences. Support budgeting, capital planning, and resource allocation. Quality & Performance Improvement Champion quality, safety, and evidence-based care initiatives. Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Lead morbidity and mortality reviews and continuous quality improvement efforts. Physician Leadership & Collaboration Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing thoracic surgeons and APPs. Foster a collaborative, multidisciplinary culture across cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, critical care, and perioperative services. Serve as a key liaison between medical staff and administration. Qualifications MD or DO from an accredited institution Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery (American Board of Thoracic Surgery or equivalent) Eligible for or currently holding licensure in the State of New Jersey Minimum of 7–10 years of clinical experience, with demonstrated leadership experience preferred Proven track record of clinical excellence, program development, and quality outcomes Experience with minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery strongly preferred #J-18808-Ljbffr Salem Health Hospitals & Clinics
