Primary Responsibilities Keep the safety rules of the chemistry laboratory. Participate in training on chemistry lab equipment operation. Synthesize and characterize new transition metal oxides or fluorides as new optical materials using hydrothermal autoclave, conventional solid‑state, powder XRD, IR, UV‑visible DRS, TGA & DSC, and EDX equipment. Determine structures of newly synthesized oxides or fluorides by single crystal diffractometry, and refine and visualize their structures. Requirements Students must be accepted on the Undergraduate Research Scholarship. Must have completed CHEM 1311 or CHEM 1312 (General Chemistry). These courses are required to conduct chemistry research projects. Preferred Qualifications Undergraduate students majoring in natural or physical sciences. Maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA. Pursuing a career in chemistry research.
