The Office of the General Counsel of the Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ is hiring an Associate General Counsel .

ROLE DESCRIPTION
As an Associate General Counsel, you will be expected to handle a wide range of matters relating to new organizing, the advancement of workers’ rights, legislative advocacy, and the representation of Union members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Represent the Union in federal and state court, and before the National Labor Relations Board and other administrative agencies.
• Draft and lobby on legislation, regulations and policies.
• Present cases to arbitrators and assist with contract negotiations.
• Advise Union officers and staff on organizing and bargaining campaigns, traditional labor law, internal Union administration, and some benefit fund matters.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants should have at least 5 years of relevant experience, excellent research and writing skills, and a demonstrated commitment to workers’ rights. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a full-time position based in New York City. You would be joining a supportive, collaborative group of 18 lawyers and administrative staff who strongly believe in the worker justice movement. The position requires travel to other locations and events, including worksites and rallies, and some out-of-state travel.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This position has a salary range of approximately $124,125 to $190,550, depending on years of experience. 32BJ offers a generous benefits package that includes full employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan (for full-time employees and their qualified dependents) and retirement benefits, including a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. 32BJ offers paid time off including four weeks’ vacation (with additional accrual based on seniority), eleven holidays, twelve sick days and four personal days. The union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.
