Exciting contract opportunities are available for skilled Sign Language Interpreters to support students in educational settings near the Palatine, IL area. Two positions are open for professionals passionate about facilitating effective communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in vibrant school environments. You’ll play a vital role in helping students fully engage with their peers and curriculum throughout the academic year.
Open Positions & Key Details:
- Position 1: Full-day schedule, Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm, serving a diverse student body and faculty through May 28, 2027.
- Position 2: Part-day schedule, Monday through Friday, 8am-12:00pm, with the opportunity to make a difference through May 20, 2027.
- Both roles are onsite and offer immediate start dates.
Qualifications & Credentials:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and proven experience in educational interpreting.
- Valid credentials such as one of the following: EIPA score of 3.5 or higher with ISBE Approval; EIPA score of 3.0-3.4 accepted with current ISBE Interim Approval; BEI, ISAS, CI/CT, or NIC credentials accepted with ISBE Approval.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster positive learning environments.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and ethical standards in educational interpretation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa for students and staff in classroom and school-related settings.
- Foster inclusion and support educational goals by accurately conveying spoken content and supporting receptive language needs.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, special educators, and other team members to ensure each student’s success.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold school policies regarding student information and interactions.
