Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of the Supervisor II in the Government Affairs Division (Division) within the Department of Cannabis Control (Department), the incumbent will serve as a senior policy advisor responsible for providing expert legislative and intergovernmental guidance within an assigned portfolio. The incumbent will independently monitor and analyze state legislation, emerging policy issues, and legislative trends, as well as conduct complex policy, legal, fiscal, and operational analyses and develop strategic recommendations to inform executive level decision-making and advance the Department’s legislative priorities. The incumbent will serve as a primary department contact and liaison between the Department and members of the California Legislature, legislative staff, legislative committees, and other governmental entities.
Through advanced research, legislative engagement, cross-divisional collaboration, and project leadership, the incumbent will advance the Department’s legislative priorities, represent its interests before government partners and stakeholders, and support the Department's mission to protect public health and safety and promote a safe, sustainable, and equitable cannabis market.

Special Requirements
Conflict of Interest (COI) - This position is subject to COI Regulations. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1st, and within 30 days of leaving office.
