Police Dispatcher I (Hourly/Intermittent), University Police Department Position Description Job no: 534059 Work type: Staff Location: San Marcos Categories: Unit 7 - CSUEU - Clerical and Administrative Support Services, Temporary, Time Varies, Safety, On-site (work in-person at business location) The University Police Department is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for the university community. The department operates a 24‑hour communication center staffed by Police Dispatchers. Police Dispatchers perform initial caller interrogation to determine the appropriate level of service needed in emergency situations, allocate appropriate personnel and resources to incidents, initiate fire, medical emergency, and non‑emergency responses, and coordinate responses by allied agencies. The dispatcher reports to the Lieutenant and works under the lead direction of the Police Sergeant. Position Summary Police Dispatcher I is a part‑time, temporary, non‑exempt position ending on or before December 20 2024. Reappointment depends on performance and administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate the appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date. Salary Range Anticipated Hiring Salary: $26.60 – $30.56 per hour (step 1 – step 8). CSU Classification Salary: $26.60 – $38.76 per hour. Shift Differential Shift differential pay of $1.35 per hour applies for 4 or more hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and midnight, and $2.30 per hour applies between midnight and 6:00 a.m. Qualifications Must successfully complete a background check (criminal records) and a pre‑employment medical examination and drug screen. The candidate must be a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act. Ability to maintain a 24‑hour communication center and respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls.
