Business Development Specialist

Job Summary Under the general direction of the Director of Sales, the Business Development Specialist will play a fundamental role in achieving revenue growth objectives by sourcing new sales opportunities through inbound lead follow-up and generating new leads for their location and satellite laboratories. The Business Development Specialist is responsible for prospecting, capturing new clients, and sales to drive an increase in revenue. The role requires excellent interpersonal and customer‑service skills, strong organizational and follow‑up skills, and the ability to sell testing services for Environmental, Food, and Radiological testing at the Merrillville, IN, and Northbrook, IL sites. Essential Functions Prospect and capture new clients through inbound lead follow‑up and outbound cold calls and emails. Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with clients to help them achieve their business goals. Develop and execute business plans that result in sales revenue growth. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of industry trends, regulatory requirements, and competitors’ pricing to present honest and accurate value propositions. Collaborate closely with sales team members and laboratory technical staff to understand current and future service offerings and capabilities. Increase sales revenue through the development and execution of business/sales plans. Establish a positive rapport with clients and collaborate to understand their needs. Work with the internal Customer Relationship team to ensure client needs are met. Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the assigned territory and industry. Leverage knowledge of clients, industry trends, and changes to anticipate and address client needs proactively. Collaborate with technical and marketing teams to create targeted marketing materials and presentations. Use Salesforce or other CRM software to identify, connect, and document sales activity with clients. Manage personal work expenses effectively and within budget. Travel efficiently and safely throughout the assigned region. Commission opportunities are available for this role. Perform administrative duties such as preparing sales reports and quotes and maintaining sales records. Maintain current and complete files on all clients and client contacts. Maintain an elevated level of client contact. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Sales, Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field preferred. Minimum 3 years of related technical sales and marketing experience required. Strategic planning and execution experience, including knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Confidence leading meetings and negotiations. Ability to align the needs of others with company services and present compelling value propositions. Residence within the communicated territory/region or willingness to relocate. General understanding of the targeted industry.
