Position Overview

Our organization is in search of a Medical Director and Division Chief of Dermatology to oversee the dermatology program located in Portland, Maine. This pivotal leadership role encompasses academic, clinical, and administrative management of dermatology services throughout the health system, aligning with our mission of excellence in clinical care, education, and research. The Division Chief will be instrumental in shaping the strategic vision for dermatology within our organization and will report to both the Senior Medical Director of Medical Specialties and the Chair of the Department of Medicine.

The Division of Dermatology offers extensive dermatological care to patients across Maine and northern New England. Our services include:

• General and complex medical dermatology
• Procedural dermatology
• Dermatologic surgery
• Inpatient and consultative dermatology services
• Collaborative care with oncology, rheumatology, primary care, and other specialties

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical institution.

• Completion of a dermatology fellowship.

• Board certification in dermatology.

• Proven leadership experience in a division, section, program, or medical directorship role.

• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational leadership abilities.

• Work with Graduate and Undergraduate Medical Education leaders and Department Chairs to enhance dermatology education for medical students, residents, and fellows.

• Oversee dermatology teaching initiatives, including clinical instruction, didactic courses, simulation-based education, electives, and grand rounds.

• Engage in efforts to create an optimal clinical learning environment in accordance with ACGME standards.

• Encourage faculty involvement in our clinical, educational, and research missions, focusing on recruitment, development, mentorship, and academic progression.

• Collaborate with research leadership to support and mentor clinical, translational, and health-services research pertinent to dermatology.

• Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered dermatological care in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

• Lead the creation and execution of innovative care models, clinical pathways, and quality improvement initiatives in dermatology.

• Work with Department of Medicine leadership and operational partners to establish and maintain clinical policies, practice guidelines, and performance improvement strategies.

• Take responsibility for achieving objectives that align with our Strategic Plan and service line goals.

• Engage in ongoing professional practice evaluations (OPPE) and focused professional practice evaluations (FPPE).

• Lead efforts in recruiting, onboarding, engaging, developing, and retaining faculty and advanced practice providers.

• Support division members in their involvement with regional and national professional organizations, leadership development programs, and academic promotions.

• Participate in meetings and workgroups essential for fulfilling academic, clinical, and administrative responsibilities.
