Summary:Overview As a Medical Staff Floor Manager, LVT at the ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH), you'll play a key role in supporting access to compassionate, high-quality veterinary care for pets and their families - especially those who have experienced hardship. You'll energize and elevate a committed team, driving a high-performing medical floor while leading from the front as a visible role model.Who We AreAAH provides expert, urgent medical care to some of NYC's most vulnerable animals. As a component of the NYC safety net system, we provide subsidized care for animals whose owners are experiencing financial challenges and cannot otherwise afford medical care for their pet. We also provide medical care for animals who come to us through our internal partners, including victims of cruelty and neglect as part of our partnership with the NYPD. The ASPCA Animal Hospital is passionate about minimizing fear, anxiety, stress, and pain in our patients. Team members in this position are responsible for providing services and communication to clients, members of the public, co-workers, and patients that are consistent with our practice's standards and Fear Free values.What You'll DoA Medical Staff Floor Manager, LVT reports directly to the Senior Director, Floor Managers, and has 10–12 direct reports. In this role, you serve as both a clinical and operational leader, balancing hands-on Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) responsibilities with oversight of daily hospital operations.As the Medical Staff Floor Manager, you will play a critical role in delivering a seamless and compassionate experience for clients and their pets, ensuring high-quality care from check-in through check-out. You will lead by example on the floor, supporting medical teams as an LVT when needed while ensuring appropriate staffing, patient flow, and adherence to medical standards.You are responsible for optimizing daily operations, identifying workflow improvements, and ensuring consistent implementation of ASPCA protocols and Fear Free practices. Your clinical expertise as an LVT allows you to guide medical quality, support patient care, and partner with veterinarians and support staff to elevate outcomes.You will collaborate closely with leadership across AAH and other ASPCA departments to align team development and operational strategies with organizational goals. As a people leader, you will directly supervise and mentor LVT and HVA team members, fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture. This includes oversight of daily operations, performance management, conflict resolution, and team development through regular coaching, constructive feedback, and targeted training initiatives.Additionally, you will monitor key performance indicators to evaluate both medical and service delivery, contribute to the development and enforcement of standard operating procedures, and participate in strategic planning to improve employee engagement and operational efficiency. Your leadership will be instrumental in building team resilience, driving accountability, and maintaining a service environment that reflects the ASPCA's core values of compassion, excellence, and commitment to animal welfare.Where and When You'll WorkThe schedule for this position is Wednesday-Saturday 9a-7p onsite at our 92nd Street location.This is a full-time position. Weekends and holidays may be required. Position may require occasional flexibility and occasional overtime.What You'll GetCompensationStarting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future. The target hiring range for this role is $92,000 - $97,000 annually. Additionally, this position is eligible for a signing bonus (for external candidates) and relocation bonus to non-local residents. Utilize training, coaching, and continuous on-the-floor feedback to drive performance and ensure the teams have what they need to be successful.Lead staff in appropriate and professional handling of any adverse client or patient events.Assist in hiring, training, and onboarding, ensuring they foster a positive and productive work environment where patient care, client service, and our mission are a priority.Set clear expectations and performance goals for both individuals and the team, ensuring alignment with departmental and organizational objectives. Oversee the annual review process and guide staff in achieving personal and professional growth.Promote and ensure the continual and consistent practice of using organizational core values and behavioral competencies. Set personal and team yearly goals and manage the yearly review process for all direct reports.Mediate and/or de-escalate employee conflicts and manage disciplinary actions when necessary.Drive cultural alignment by promoting and modeling the consistent practice of organizational core values and behavioral competencies across all levels of the team.Foster continuous development by delivering regular, high-quality feedback and conducting quarterly one-on-one meetings with all direct reports.Operational SupportMaintain adequate staffing levels at all times; assign and/or re-assign appropriate responsibilities, as well as direct workflow to maximize productivity up to and after the close of business and maintain coverage in the event of callouts, injuries, increased volume, etc.Ensure safety needs are met; incident reports are completely and accurately filled out, submitted to benefits, legal, and safety team; readily report workers' compensation claims, benefits, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests, etc. to the benefits team.Assist staff on the hospital floor with direct animal care at least 50% of the work week.Review and approve operations team schedules as needed, time off, and timecards.Perform all the duties of an AAH Licensed Veterinary Technician as needed.Assist in general and preventative maintenance needs for all AAH medical equipment.Assist in oversight of Controlled Substance Reporting and all DEA records and ordering including controlled substance reporting and technician's Cubex registration and training.Oversee standards for all supplies including medical, basic animal care & blood supply.Communication & LeadershipAttend and lead daily huddles/meetings to ensure optimal workflow.Evaluate and improve operational systems by identifying opportunities for innovation and efficiency, and presenting data-driven recommendations to senior leadership that elevate patient care, client experience, and team productivityOversee team performance and ensure a consistently high standard of care for all patients, in alignment with ASPCA policies, Fear Free guidelines, and organizational benchmarksDemonstrate organizational agility by taking on additional strategic or operational duties as assigned, contributing to departmental goals, special projects, and long-term initiativesLead resolution of complex issues by proactively addressing concerns, de-escalating challenging situations, and implementing sustainable solutions that uphold organizational reputation and client trustPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsNew York State Veterinary Technician License requiredProficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook requiredAbility to plan, organize and effectively lead in a high-paced and fast-moving environment.Must be flexible and tactful in all communicationsMust be self-confident, motivated and possess the ability to interact effectively with ASPCA employees, clients and the publicMust be able to lift and carry 40-plus pounds repeatedly throughout the day with assistanceMust possess the ability to work standing for 10 or more hoursAbility to exemplify ASPCA's core values and behavioral competenciesEducation and Work ExperienceExperience managing people preferredExperience working in a veterinary setting requiredAt least 1 years' experience in an operational role requiredAbility to direct people as well as to interact with people fairly and courteously.Experience handling and restraining animals requiredAdditional InformationWe encourage a candidatewho demonstrates outstanding interpersonal communication and the ability to work in a team environment or independently, with a high degree of integrity and accountability.
