Student Research Assistant – Nematology (2) Position Details: CAES‑Plant Pathology, Salary: $15.00/hr, Start Date: 03/18/2024, Posting Date: 02/28/2024, FTE: .50. The position is filled on a non‑exempt basis. Responsibilities Sort and record nematode plant and soil samples received from clients. Fill 100 cc beakers with soil and extract plant‑parasitic nematodes from samples. Accurately enter nematode assay results into a database system. Wash and sterilize glassware; discard leftover soil and plant samples. Maintain a neat and clean laboratory environment. Assist with greenhouse and field research projects related to the management of plant‑parasitic nematodes. Maintain greenhouse and field experiments, apply treatments, and travel to layout trials and record relevant data. Qualifications Relevant education and experience in nematology, plant pathology, or related fields. Knowledge of laboratory techniques for manipulating nematode samples and maintaining experimental setups. Ability to accurately document experimental data. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Physical ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs; endurance for extended periods in both indoor and outdoor settings. Physical Demands Standing, bending, and enduring outdoor or indoor elements for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
