Job Description Special Education Paraeducator Location: Orchards Elementary School Reports to: Special Education Instructor/Building Principal Department: Special Services Hours / Work Times: 6.33 Hours Per Day (8:30 a.m. – 3:20 p.m., 30‑minute unpaid lunch) 4.33 Hours on Early‑Release Days (8:30 a.m. – 1:20 p.m., 30‑minute unpaid time) 6.17 Hours on Designated Full Wednesdays (8:30 a.m. – 3:10 p.m., 30‑minute unpaid lunch) 190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays) Starting Date: Aug 24 2026 Employment Requirements: Be at least eighteen (18) years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. Meet at least one of the following: Pass the ParaPro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher. Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher from an accredited college or university. Complete a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council. Qualified candidates will be screened; otherwise, the name will be removed from consideration. Upon hire, new paraeducators will complete state‑required training offered through Evergreen School District. Responsibilities Provide special education services and supports for elementary and/or secondary students eligible for special education under the direction of the Special Education teacher or IEP manager. Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents. Deliver one‑to‑one and group instruction to meet individualized education program (IEP) goals. Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment aligned with curriculum outcomes. Assess student progress, evaluate learning, and collect performance data to track IEP progress. Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests. Implement behavioral management strategies as outlined by the teacher. Assist in organizing and preparing instructional materials. Attend to students’ bathroom needs, including lifting and changing students as required. Feed students and handle body fluids with care. Assist in lifting and positioning students. Provide services directed by related service providers (OT, PT, SLP). Help students use assistive technology, augmentative communication, or physical assist devices. Attend training sessions to maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of student needs. Perform other related duties as assigned. Physical & Mental Demands Vision, hearing, and speaking: 66‑100 % Standing, walking, stooping, reaching, squatting: 33‑66 % Seated work: 33‑66 % Writing: up to 33 % Lifting up to 50 lbs individually; more with assistance.
