Special Education Paraeducator ECSE (9973 Sped)

Starting Date: Aug 24, 2026 Job Summary Under the supervision of the Special Education classroom instructor and the building Principal, the Special Education Paraeducator will assist in the supervision of instructional activities, working closely with students on an individual and small group basis. This temporary, part‑time position requires 3.17 hours per day (8:30 a.m. – 11:40 a.m.) on all days except Wednesdays and early‑release days, for a total of 141 days per year. Responsibilities Provide special education services and supports to elementary and secondary students who are eligible for special education. Communicate effectively with students, staff and parents. Deliver one‑to‑one and group instruction as directed by the teacher to meet each student’s Individual Education Program (IEP). Assist in creating and maintaining a learning environment that aligns with course goals and curriculum outcomes. Assess student progress, evaluate learning, and collect data to measure IEP goal attainment. Administer and score formal and informal tests. Implement behavior management strategies as directed by the teacher. Organize and prepare instructional materials. Provide necessary assistance with bathroom and feeding needs, including lifting and changing students when required. Operate assistive technology and support physical assist devices (wheelchairs, walkers, lifts). Attend training sessions to stay current with student needs and best practices. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent. Meet at least one of the following Paraeducator Employment Requirements: Pass the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher. Hold an Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution. Earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher from an accredited institution. Complete a Washington State registered Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program. Have previous experience working with students in academic or special education settings. Demonstrate effective communication with students, staff, and parents. Show ability to supervise and work with students. Possess characteristics of flexibility, initiative, and cooperativeness. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Willingness to learn computer skills and assistive technology. Ability to function under constant interruptions and manage physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs. Establish and maintain positive relationships as part of a team. Physical and Mental Demands Vision, speaking, hearing, standing, walking, writing, stooping, reaching, lifting, and running within specified limits. Work in an environment with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Handle constant interruptions and multiple concurrent tasks.
