Starting Date: Aug 24, 2026 Special Education Paraeducator Location: Evergreen High School Reports To: Special Education Instructor / Building Principal Department: Special Services Hours / Work Times 6 Hours Per Day: 8:45 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. (30 minute unpaid lunch) 3.83 Hours on Early-Release Days: 8:45 a.m. – 1:05 p.m. (30 minute unpaid time) 190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays) Position Status: Program Support Position Duration: Temporary Classification Group: Paraeducator Class II Salary Placement: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range. Employees with verified prior years of service may receive experience credit toward salary step placement. Must Meet Paraeducator Employment Requirements*: Be at least 18 and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Meet one or more of the following: Pass the ETS Parapro Assessment (score ≥ 455). Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Earn 72 quarter credits / 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher from an accredited college or university. Summary Statement: Under supervision of the Special Education classroom instructor and principal, the paraeducator assists with instructional supervision and works closely with students individually and in small groups. Essential Functions: (Washington State Core Competencies indicated) Provide special education services and supports to students as directed by the teacher or IEP manager. Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents. Provide one-to-one and group instruction to meet IEP goals. Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment per curriculum outcomes. Assess progress, evaluate learning and collect performance data to track IEP goals. Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests. Implement behavioral management strategies as outlined by the teacher. Organize and prepare instructional materials. Assist with student bathroom needs, including lifting and changing students. Feed students as necessary. Handle body fluids and other hygienic needs. Provide services as directed by related service providers (OT, PT, SLP). Assist students with assistive technology and physical devices (wheelchairs, walkers, lifts). Attend required training sessions to update understanding of student needs. Other Responsibilities: Perform other related duties as assigned. Tools and Equipment Necessary: Computer, typewriter, copy machines, telephone, and other tools needed for essential functions. Minimum Qualifications: Basic typing/keyboarding. Previous experience working with students in academic or professional special education coursework. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents. Demonstrated ability to work with and supervise students. Flexibility, initiative, and cooperativeness. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Willingness to learn computer skills and assistive technology. Ability to operate office equipment. Ability to work under constant interruption. Physical strength to manage potential aggressive behavior. Ability to establish and maintain positive team relationships.
