We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of multiple companies under our ownership.This position will work across several businesses and industries and will be responsible for maintaining accurate books, reconciling accounts, assisting with accounts payable and receivable, preparing financial reports, and helping ensure each company's accounting records are current and organized.The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a multi-company environment, can independently research and resolve accounting discrepancies, and is willing to help clean up and improve existing accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accounting records and general ledgers for multiple companies.
• Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
• Record and categorize transactions accurately.
• Manage and assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Review outstanding invoices, vendor balances, and customer receivables.
• Prepare and post journal entries.
• Reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing.
• Prepare monthly Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and other management reports.
• Identify and correct accounting discrepancies and improperly recorded transactions.
• Help clean up historical bookkeeping issues when necessary.
• Maintain supporting documentation for transactions and reconciliations.
• Assist with intercompany transactions and reconciliations between related companies.
• Track loans, credit lines, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with payroll-related accounting and reconciliations.
• Work with outside CPAs and tax professionals by providing requested schedules, reports, and supporting documents.
• Assist with sales tax, 1099s, and other accounting/compliance requirements.
• Help improve accounting procedures and internal controls.
• Support management with special accounting and financial projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
• Experience managing books for multiple companies or entities is a strong plus.
• Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Comfortable researching discrepancies and solving accounting problems independently.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and company books simultaneously.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential financial information professionally.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is hands-on and willing to dig into the details. This is not a position limited to preparing reports. The Staff Accountant should be comfortable reviewing transactions, reconciling accounts, finding errors, cleaning up books, communicating with vendors or internal team members, and helping management understand the financial position of each business.Experience working with multiple related businesses or small-to-mid-sized companies would be particularly valuable.
