Staff Accountant

Job Overview Position: Staff Accountant Office/Bureau: Finance Salary: $20.68 - $28.88 per hour (Salary Schedule) Opening Date: July 21, 2026 Closing Date: August 4, 2026 Responsibilities Provide comprehensive financial and administrative support for accurate and timely payment processing. Conduct pre-audits of invoices and travel reimbursement vouchers to verify compliance with policies and accounting requirements. Process and track accounts receivable and payable entries in MaineDOT and State accounting systems. Maintain and update customer, vendor, and employee information in the State’s accounting systems. Ensure accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of financial records while maintaining compliance with state policies, accounting standards, and internal controls. Qualifications Knowledge of generally accepted accounting theories, principles, methods, practices, and terminology. Proficient with computerized accounting systems and strong Excel skills. Familiarity with standardized desktop technology and products. Ability to apply GAAP to account for revenue, expenditures, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Effective communication skills and ability to work as a team member. Education or experience in accounting, business administration, financial planning, budgeting, or a related field. Demonstrated competency in analyzing data and records, interpreting policies, and developing practical solutions.
