Job Summary New Business Developer – a professional sales position focused on improving Sysco’s market position and driving financial growth by executing long‑term strategic goals. The role prioritizes advanced analytics, lead generation, and the use of Sysco’s Salesforce platform to negotiate contracts and secure new business. Using a team‑selling approach, the New Business Developer engages a cross‑functional team to create comprehensive strategies that meet prospects’ needs, fosters relationships, and transitions accounts to the sales force during onboarding. Responsibilities As identified in Sysco’s Leadership Framework, on‑target performance includes exhibiting core qualities, shaping the future, and delivering business results. Deliver the agreed new business plan aligned with the region’s financial goals. Work with regional sales leaders to develop a comprehensive business‑development strategy. Leverage advanced analytics insights to prioritize opportunities and create strategies. Prioritize intel opportunities recommended by other sales team members via the Salesforce platform with leadership approval. Build creative and effective sales plans to capitalize on multi‑segment opportunities identified by advanced analytics. Quickly address prospects’ unique concerns, build trust, and shorten sales cycles using cross‑functional expertise. Coordinate the proposal process for local contracts that address client needs, concerns, and objectives. Collaborate with the sales team to expand business‑development efforts, helping other team members secure key accounts to meet the annual profit plan. Review weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales objectives and results for target accounts and prepare improvement action plans. Receive continuous training on key areas such as MA‑training, business‑development certifications, and executive training. Monitor emerging market and foodservice industry trends to understand the competitive landscape and position Sysco effectively. Stay current on industry developments through seminars, workshops, and publications. Develop strong working relationships with brokers, distributors, and foodservice peers; actively participate in the foodservice community. Adapt quickly to change and view new experiences as growth opportunities. Seek out feedback to improve performance. Ensure accurate entry and management of prospect account data within the Salesforce platform. Identify opportunities for promotions, additional services, and distribution avenues that increase sales. Present to senior management on trends in the foodservice industry. Attend sales meetings, food shows, and customer events, providing feedback. Stay current with Sysco’s value‑added offerings and technology solutions, including customer‑facing reporting tools. Qualifications Education/Experience Minimum: High School diploma or GED, 3+ years of relevant B2B professional sales experience, and 2+ years with a proven track record of new business development. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational level. Knowledge Skills Solid analytical problem‑solving skills, including familiarity with analyzing reports and deriving insights from data. Ability to express information in terms of profit and loss, food cost, and expense ratio. Strong financial acumen and ability to plan and execute business plans. Flexible and open to change. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence diverse stakeholders. Strong communication skills; effective communication with internal and external teams. Ability to understand and manage contract compliance. Ability to learn proprietary CRM tools for sales planning and forecasting. Demonstrated ability to deliver against deadlines and produce high‑quality results. Proficiency in Microsoft Applications Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Excellent organizational and project‑management skills, including multitasking. Business and restaurant operations acumen to manage sophisticated customers. Demonstrated success in building trust with prospective customers and securing new business. Demonstrated consultative selling, networking, and negotiation skills. Proactive, self‑directed, with the ability to structure a weekly schedule for success. Understanding of marketing principles, product lines, ordering procedures, and Sysco’s credit terms.
