Anatomy & Embryology Course Director (Teaching Assistant/Associate/Professor) Department of Health Sciences Education Location: Rockford, IL USA Requisition ID: 1041308 Posting Close Date: Monday, July 6, 2026, at 6:00 pm (Central Daylight Time) Salary: $110,000 to $180,000 annually Position Summary The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford (UICOMR) seeks an innovative educator for a full-time faculty position in Anatomy and Embryology and course direction. The selected individual will collaborate closely with anatomy and embryology experts across the UICOM campuses in Rockford, Chicago, and Peoria, develop course materials, and employ innovative teaching methods. Duties include teaching all components of anatomy and embryology at the basic level required for first- and second-year medical students, coordinating with related courses, generating evaluation tools, and serving as course director for an integrated discipline course. Participation in research throughout the college is optional. Duties & Responsibilities Develop teaching materials for medical anatomy and embryology, delivering basic principles needed for clinical practice, covering all systems including neuroanatomy. Teach content through lectures, laboratory sessions, online modules, and other learning activities. Collaborate with other UICOM sites on course schedules, materials, exams, and educational planning for anatomy and embryology. Participate in workgroups to design innovative teaching approaches within the disciplines. Oversee anatomy lab operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and ethical practices. Coordinate and direct the annual anatomy service gratitude event. Serve as director for an integrated pre‑clinical medical school course at the local or college-wide level as assigned. Serve on local and college-wide committees to support the college's mission. Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. or M.D./D.O. or equivalent foreign degree. Previous teaching experience in anatomy, embryology, or related courses. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Collaborative team player in a multidisciplinary setting. Familiarity with instructional technologies (e.g., Box, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, learning management systems such as Blackboard). Demonstrated commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment. Preferred Qualifications Terminal degree in Anatomy or Embryology. Experience teaching collegiate or medical anatomy and embryology courses. Administrative experience in an educational or clinical setting. Demonstrated educational scholarship. Knowledge of LCME requirements. Previous course director experience. Interest in innovative teaching strategies.
