We are looking to hire a Human Resources Generalist in Pico Rivera, CA. This is a Contract to Hire opportunity to join a growing HR team.

Schedule: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday
Pay: $28 to $30/hour

Position Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist will support day-to-day HR operations with a strong focus on employee relations, labor relations, compliance, investigations, leave administration, performance management, and policy implementation.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a union or labor relations environment and be comfortable partnering with employees, supervisors, and management to address workplace concerns, interpret policies, support disciplinary processes, and maintain positive employee relations.

We are looking for someone who is organized, responsive, eager to grow within Human Resources, and able to work with a strong sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support employee relations and labor relations matters across the organization.
• Assist with union-related employee issues, grievances, disciplinary matters, and interpretation of collective bargaining agreement provisions.
• Partner with HR leadership and management on employee concerns, performance issues, corrective actions, and workplace conflicts.
• Participate in employee investigations and assist with documenting findings, recommendations, and follow-up actions.
• Support disciplinary meetings, written warnings, suspensions, and termination processes.
• Respond to employee and management inquiries regarding company policies, procedures, workplace expectations, and HR practices.
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee relations and labor relations documentation.
• Assist with leave administration, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, and other applicable leave programs.
• Support benefits, compensation, and general HR administration as needed.
• Monitor compliance with required training, licenses, certifications, safety programs, and employee assessments.
• Assist with the administration and interpretation of company policies and HR procedures.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and applicable labor requirements.
• Support grievance tracking, case management, and employee relations reporting.
• Generate HR reports and analyze data to identify trends related to attendance, discipline, employee relations, turnover, and workforce activity.
• Maintain and update employee information within HRIS systems.
• Assist with audits, compliance reviews, and HR documentation requests.
• Support employee engagement and retention initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, documentation, and internal workflows.
• Perform additional HR duties and projects as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong employee relations and conflict resolution skills.
• Labor relations or union environment experience strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and grievance processes preferred.
• Strong understanding of California employment laws and HR compliance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally with employees, supervisors, managers, and union representatives.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a strong sense of urgency.
• Strong judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive employee information with discretion.
• Strong follow-up skills and ability to work independently.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including reporting, data analysis, formulas, lookups, and Pivot Tables.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Experience working with HRIS systems.
• Willingness to learn, take on additional responsibility, and grow within the HR function.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field preferred.
• 3 to 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience preferred.
• Previous experience supporting employee relations and labor relations strongly preferred.
• Experience working within a unionized workforce is highly desirable.
• Manufacturing, distribution, or other high-volume workforce experience preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.
• HR certification such as SHRM-CP, PHR, PHRca, SHRM-SCP, or SPHR is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Union and collective bargaining agreement experience.
• Experience handling grievances, investigations, corrective actions, and employee relations matters.
• Manufacturing or distribution environment experience.
• Multi-site or multi-state HR experience.
• Strong Microsoft Excel and HR reporting skills.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Knowledge of California wage and hour and employment law.
• Self-motivated professional with a desire to continue developing within Human Resources.
