Labor and Employment Paralegal

Overview Paralegal position in the labor & employment practice. You will work closely with attorneys to serve clients in multiple functions across various areas of labor & employment law, interacting with attorneys, paralegals, staff, and outside vendors in a team setting, while upholding the Firm’s image of excellence and client service. Responsibilities Assist with all aspects of discovery, including organizing documents, maintaining electronic databases, coordinating document productions, Bates-stamping, redaction, deduplication, and indexing of documents. Work with Practice Support and e-Discovery groups on electronic productions. Categorize documents by subject matter, prepare chronologies, and create key document files. Research various aspects of the case for discovery, including requesting admissions and production; prepare and issue Public Records Act / FOIA requests and third-party subpoenas for production of documents. Conduct factual research, perform initial case assessments and document searches, create and maintain internal case databases, and run searches on internal and external document databases; extract relevant information from newspapers, magazines, libraries, case documents, and trade associations. Manage and utilize automated litigation support tools (e.g., CaseMap, Text Map, Relativity, Westlaw, Lexis) and database management software. Review and draft routine legal documents (pleadings, pleadings-related documents, requests and responses, interrogatories, affidavits) and assist with e-filing and e-files with courts. Organize briefs, exhibits, and appendices for filing with state and federal courts and agencies; ensure proper notice, distribution of files, and courtesy copies. Prepare witness and matter materials, organize interview memos and digests, and assist attorneys in trial preparation. Assist with depositions, gather and prepare documents, organize exhibits, take notes, and handle exhibits; assist with hearings and motions (assembly of documents, proofreading, organization of exhibits, and document indices). Identify and contact experts who may assist a case; assist in trial preparation and during trials; organize exhibits and trial logistics; assist attorneys in the courtroom as needed and operate trial support software. Qualifications 5-7 years’ litigation experience as a paralegal required; Labor and Employment experience preferred. Bachelor’s Degree and/or Paralegal Certificate (or equivalent experience). High level of experience with all Microsoft Office programs; ability to learn firm-related client technologies and manage client sites, group collaboration sites, and calendaring sites. Exceptional organizational and investigative skills; self-starter, highly motivated, adaptable, flexible, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize deadlines. Excellent communication, listening, and writing skills. Experience with all aspects of litigation, including factual research, discovery, drafting notices and pleadings, motions, orders, discovery responses, witness preparation, depositions, and trial preparation. Strong familiarity with document review and tagging databases (Ringtail, Relativity, and other e-discovery tools); experience with Trial Director, TextMap, and CaseMap; ability to use Lexis, Westlaw, PACER, and other online sources for public document searches and case law. Ability to conduct research on court rules and state statutes; cite check and Blue Book legal briefs and pleadings; prepare exhibits and demonstratives for depositions and trial. Experience e-filing and manual filing of legal pleadings; ability to work independently and follow through on projects with minimal supervision; ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities; willingness to work beyond standard business hours. This role is aligned with local compliance requirements, including the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance. Salary range for this role is $109,000 - $145,000 annually, based on a 40-hour work week.
