In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title, or be reachable on the civil service list, exam # 5045. Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. The Office of Livable Streets (OLS) is tasked with prioritizing strategic planning, community engagement, research, policy, design, implementation, and long-term management. Their goal is to create streets that are livable, supporting safety, accessibility, inclusion, resiliency, active modes, community cohesion, and economic vitality citywide. Additionally, they aim to enhance New York City's pedestrian, bicycle, and micromobility networks, providing comfortable, connected, green, and reliable transportation options across the five boroughs. They place special emphasis on Priority Investment Areas, mode shift, and reimagining streets. The office also develops innovative new programs, design typologies, project delivery, and analysis tools to meet the demands of a rapidly changing population with evolving needs and technologies. The Cycling & Micromobility Unit is responsible for the nation's largest network of on-street bicycle facilities (1,200+ lane-miles), enhancing street safety for all users, and increasing bike ridership in the five boroughs. The team's focus is the innovative redesign of city streets to expand and improve the bike network, with emphasis on improving connectivity between neighborhoods, increasing access to safe bicycle infrastructure across the city, and creating a more equitable transportation network that serves all New Yorkers. The Cycling & Micromobility Unit seeks to hire two highly motivated and detail-oriented Project Coordinators to support the planning, development, and delivery of capital bicycle and micromobility projects throughout New York City. Under the supervision of senior staff, the selected candidates will manage complex capital projects, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and partner agencies, and help advance projects from concept through design and implementation. The selected candidates will support the identification and development of new capital project opportunities, coordinate the review of transportation and development projects led by partner agencies, and collaborate with planners, engineers, and designers to ensure high-quality bicycle and micromobility infrastructure is incorporated into capital projects citywide. The position offers the opportunity to work on some of New York City's most significant transportation projects while helping shape the future of the City's cycling network. The candidate will manage Cycling & Micromobility-sponsored capital projects through planning, design, and implementation, including project scope, schedule, budget, consultant management, and coordination with internal DOT divisions and external agencies. The candidate will support the identification, evaluation, and development of new capital bicycle and micromobility projects through site investigations, existing conditions analysis, conceptual planning, and project scoping. The candidate will review roadway reconstruction, bridge, public space, land development, and other transportation projects to identify opportunities for bicycle and micromobility improvements and provide technical comments throughout project development, ensuring designs comply with AASHTO, MUTCD, and NYC DOT standards and best practices. The candidate will coordinate with planners, engineers, architects, landscape architects, operations staff, and consultants to incorporate high-quality cycling and micromobility facilities into capital projects, and assist in the development of conceptual designs and planning studies. The candidate will prepare reports, presentations, correspondence, briefing materials, and other technical documents to support project development, executive decision-making, funding requests, and grant applications. The candidate will track project schedules, milestones, design comments, commitments, and follow-up actions to support coordination across multiple concurrent capital projects. The candidate will perform other related duties as assigned.
